Cost-effectiveness of treatment intervention in prediabetic patients in Bulgaria

Introduction : The study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness (CE) of an early intervention in prediabetes (metformin) order prevent or slow down onset diabetes those at high risk compared with current “do nothing” approach. Materials and methods An Excel-based model was developed. results CE cost-utility analyses are presented as ICER (incremental ratio) ICUR ratio), respectively. Markov cost potential savings from perspective National Health Insurance Fund Bulgaria performed. Results metformin patients routine shows that treatment produced more health benefits (number prevented cases) on a lower for public payer. calculated is -7,122.32 BGN per number cases it confirms cost-savings possible when applied quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) gained also preventive dominant cost-saving alternative. simulation less costly long-term leads higher QALYs. Conclusion investment offers excellent value money. payer Bulgaria.
